Tricia,
ReplyDeletetried to call you with a couple questions...what program do you use to make all your cute signs, labels, etc. I'm just learning the digital craze!
I love your blog - so creative and very helpful.

ReplyDeleteI use the Microsoft Digital Image Program.
It's basically just shapes that I put together to make the pictures. I haven't even tried to do the digital stuff on line . . . a little
over-whelming for me.
Hope that helps!
Trish
Tricia-
ReplyDeletethe recipe calls for biscuit and baking mix.
Can I use boxed bisquick or what should I use?
from california
Sorry I forgot to ask another question.
ReplyDeleteHow long is this mix good to sit in storage
for? When giving it as a gift, I want to
put a "pls use by this date_____."
The mixes you used for Mother's day, could
you tell me how long those are okay to store for? Or just tell me to use immediately.
Thanks so much.

I made a few jars of the mixes for a friend. I was wondering if for myself--can you just put all the ingredients in a big zip lock bag--does it matter how it's stored? Or does it need to be layered. For my sanity and for space reasons--it would be a lot better for myself to store that way. I do love the jar idea for gifts. Plus, a big THANK YOU for your blog. I love all your ideas. I'm so excited to use the Frog and the Princess job charts.

Here are the answers to your questions:
ReplyDeleteBisquick Mix is PERFECT for this Mix Recipe.
The jars will last as long as the ingredient with the shortest shelf-life, which is usually the nuts or the flour. If you have a food savor with the jar lid attachment and add an oxy-pack, the shelf-life of your food is much longer. (I would say at least 10 years.) As a rule, I go by the earliest expiration date of the ingredients I used in each particular mix. (Check the LDS Cannery order form for expiration dates . . . www.lds.org under food storage.)
You can store the mixes in Food Savor Bags. (They are thicker than regular ziploc bags and will do a better job of keeping the moisture out.)
If you are planning on using them within the year . . . Ziploc bags are a great option, and they do save alot of space!
The reason it is important to layer in order . . . certain ingredients tend to dry out faster when they are next to each other. The other reason is just for looks.
Hope that answers all your GREAT QUESTIONS!
Have a Great Day!
Trish
