Vital Records - Family ID and Fingerprint Pages!

We will be finishing up the Family Section of the
Vital Records Binder TODAY!
The last 3 items needed in the Family Section are:
Child ID and DNA
Here is a link for the DNA Kit and Toothprints Wafer:

This wafer will also hold the Child's DNA.
(The DNA is the saliva they will leave on the
wafer when they make their toothprints.)
 Front Side
Back Side

 Fingerprint Cards or Pages

and the
Scanned Vital Records CD:
 Which includes all Legal Documents.
I'm saving my Legal Documents to a Memory Stick
as well as a CD.
(You may want to make an extra copy.)

Use double-sided tape to adhere the CD envelope to
the Vital Records divider page.
I just put the tape on the outside of the envelope flap
so that my CD wouldn't fall out, but I will still have access to it.
Here's the PDF:
Next Week's Section is all about . . . Finances!

A House of Order and FUN: Day Keeper Part 1!

Are you ready to get started?!?
This is something I've been working on for a few years.
I have a background in organizing
and have been organizing since 1989.
Durring that time, and I have had the opportunity
to work with lots of different women
in every season of life.
We have alot on our plates and it's not always easy
to get everything on our list done.
Especially if our lists are written on
the back of receipts, post-it notes, and old shopping lists.
Hopefully this will help.
(It's been a lifesaver for me and my family!)
The Day Keeper can be adapted to work
for whatever season you're in, including Grandparenting!
Most of my planning is done on a weekly basis.
Even though each day of my week has a
different purpose and focus,
the daily format is very consistent.
Consistency IS Key!
If you don't have to think about
Everything Everyday
you will save time and energy.
It's kind of like going into Auto Pilot.
You just do it without thinking!
(And that's actually a good thing when you are running a household!)
So . . . Here WE Go!
Grab some post-it notes and a pen.
Start by listing each of the days of the week on a seperate
post-it. I put mine up on the wall so that I could really
get an idea of how my days looked.
List each of the other tasks you have as a homemaker
on a seperate post-it.
For Example:
Grocery Shopping, Menu Planning, Paying Bills,
Cleaning and Laundry, Yard Care . . . etc.
Next:
List appointments and regular weekly schedules.
Place each appointment under the day it happens.
Include the name of the person(s) involved in the activity
as well as the time and place.
Here's a picture of what mine looks like:
Once you have this part complete, you can start filling out your
Weekly Overview Sheet:
You are basically transferring what you have on the wall.
I did mine with post-it notes first so that I could move
different assignments to different days . . . That way
I could make my daily work load a little bit more even.
I didn't want to have to deep clean
Bathrooms and the Kitchen on the same day.
I do a quick pick-up in all the rooms, but I deep clean
certain rooms on certain days.
This information is then transfered to the
Days of the Week Pages!

Here are the PDF files:
It might seem like you are doing a lot of extra work to set this
Family Organizing System up . . . but I promise, this is the best
way to put it together and have it be unique to
YOUR FAMILY'S NEEDS.
That's all the homework for today!
Tomorrow we will start to assemble the book,
and YES, you'll finally get to see what it looks like.
I just want you to be able to complete each
section before you move onto the next.
NO UNFINISHED PROJECTS FOR US!!!

Preserve It . . . Canning Corner - Chicken Soup!

I know soup is usually something you think of during
a cold day in the winter . . . but our weather has been
so CrAzY, I thought I might as well post the
Chicken Soup Recipe!

The noodles are added just before serving!
Here's the Recipe PDF:
I am also including a recipe for
Mexican Chicken Soup
(Which by the way . . . is AMAZING!)

The ingredients are almost the same as the regular
chicken soup, but the added seasonings and tomato juice
add variety!

Serve this soup with sour cream, tortilla chips, cheese,
and slices of avacado!
Here's the Recipe PDF:
Soup is one of my favorite things to can.
I just double or triple the recipe and I have dinner for now,
and dinner for later.
Dinner is ready in just a few minutes and the best part . . .
it tastes like you've been cooking for hours!
JOY!

To Make the Day Keeper
You Will Need:

Lined Post-It Notes
Index Tabs with Adhesive
(They come in clear or in color)
2 - 24 Page Presentation Books
(I got mine at Office Max)
A Picture of Your Family
and Printed Copies of the PDF Files
you choose to use in your Day Keeper.
(There are no PDF's yet . . . but just you wait, they're on the way!)
I want to start off by explaining
My Daily Focus.
Trying to make sure that everyone gets plenty of
one-on-one time is sometimes easier said than done.
As parents we tend to go where the need is,
and by the end of the week we wonder how much
time we actually got to spend with each child.
My Daily Focus is an idea we came up with
to make sure that
EVERYONE
gets some special time with mom and dad.
(Mom and Dad even get some time!)
We assigned each family member a day of the week.
That day is THEIR DAY!
We still have everyday responsibilities with the
other children, but we make special efforts
to make the each person's day special.
This has made a huge difference in our family.
We let the kids stay up a little later on their day,
we serve their favorite dinner and
we even do their jobs for them on their day!
They choose something special to do with mom and dad.
Sometimes it's just staying up 15 minutes later to play a quick
card game or listen to one more story before bed.
Sunday we focus on the Savior.
We try to do things that help us to remember HIM
and keep HIS DAY Holy.
Dave and I have our "Date Night!"
Because we love our night sooo much, it helps us to
make sure we follow through with our plans for our children.
It truly fills our cups and helps to keep our family strong!
Each of our children have their assigned color
which I use in My Day Keeper.
(Notice the colors I used are the same colors I used
in my family flag.  I use their colors ALL THE TIME!)
In just a glance I am quickly reminded who's day it is.
This section is incorporated into the
Weekly Spread Sheets
I'll go over these tomorrow.
In the meantime . . .
I have a little homework assignment
for YOU tonight!
Assign each of your children a day of the week.
Take into consideration lessons and appointments,
and Don't Forget to include your Date Night.
The whole Day Keeper Revolves around
this information, so it's important to start here.
I will show you pictures of my Day Keeper layout
tomorrow and all through the next week.
You will have a
New Homework Assignment Each Day,
which I hope will be FUN!
(I LOVE this kind of stuff, so it doesn't really feel like work.)
By the end of the week, your Day Keeper should be
ready to go!
(I'm sooo EXCITED . . . I know I'm not going to sleep tonight!)
YEAH!!!

Ark Prep 101 - Family Evacuation Plan!

How fast could you get out of the
house if there was an
Emergency Evacuation?
What would you take?
What should you do before you leave?
Here are a few things FEMA has learned
from trial and error
during actual emergency evacuation situations:
ONE:
If you are asked to evacuate, please do so as quickly as possible.
TWO:
Wear protective clothing and sturdy shoes.
THREE:
Take your emergency kit, and medications for at least
72 hours.  Even though it may appear to you that you will
only be gone for a few hours, be prepared for longer.
Once you leave, you may not be allowed to return to your home.
FOUR:
Leash or cage pets and take them with you if possible.
However, most shelters will not accept pets.
Some animal hospitals may be willing to board your pets.
If you take them with you, be sure to take their food, water
and other items they will need.
Make a list of possibilities for boarding your pets.
FIVE:
Lock all doors and windows.
Don't Forget to take the KEYS!
Be sure ALL appliances (large or small) are turned off;
and candles are out.
SIX:
Leave a note as to where you have gone and what family members
are with you.
SEVEN:
Follow travel routes recommended by local authorities to reach the
Evacuation "Reception" Center.
EIGHT:
Please go straight to the evacuation "reception" center and
Check In.  Let them know where you are going if you leave to go
to another location (a realitive's home, motel, etc.)
NINE:
Do Not Return home until local authorities say
that it is safe to do so.
You may be given a few minutes
to gather some extra things.
Plan ahead so you know what is most important to take with you.
Think about things that are irreplaceable in case your home is
destroyed and/or you are not able to return, such as journals,
family photos, scrapbooks, family heirlooms, family records  . . .
Write down the thing of top priority and their location.
Here's the PDF for you to fill out:
Keep the COMPLETED form where it is easy to
see and remember.
Review it often with your family!
Here's a great video for you to watch.
Which family would YOU be?
Challenge:
Fill this paper out TODAY and REVIEW it with your family.

For the Strength of Youth Family Home Evening: Dress and Appearance!

Opening Prayer:
Scripture:
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the
Spirit of God dwelleth in you? . . . The temple of God is holy,
which temple ye are"
(1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
Thought:
If it's too tight, too short, or too revealing,
It doesn't fit church standards.
Don't shrink your standards to fit the world's.
Music:
Jenny Phillips puts together a CD every year with
songs to go with the year's theme.
Strong and Courageous is the name of the CD.
This year's theme is found in Joshua 1:9
"Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid,
neither be thou dismayed: for the
Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
Song:
The words to one of my favorite songs on the CD says,
"I didn't come to earth to compromise,
I came here to hold up my light.
No matter what the world may do,
I'm a daughter (or son) of God, and I'm holding on to virtue."
I want the minds of men to be lifted when
they look at me.
I don't need the attention of immodesty,
I am confident with my divinity.
(The words say it perfectly and the music is beautiful.)
The whole CD is AMAZING! Definately worth buying!
We are the best examples our children can have when it
comes to modesty.  We set the dress standards in our homes,
by our example of dress.
Activity:
Immodesty Give Away!
Read Mosiah 18:9
"Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn;
yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and
to Stand as Witnesses of God at ALL Times
and in ALL Places . . ."
Thought Questions:
What does "Standing as a Witness"
have to do with modesty?
Would you dress differently
if you were going to see the Prophet?
Would you dress differently
if you were going to see the Savior?
What do your clothes say about YOU?
Challenge:
Encourage each family member to take a few minutes to go
into their closets and bring back anything that would be
consisdered immodest.
We will be offering our boys an incentive for each
article of immodest clothing they were willing to give away.
For each family member that participates in the challenge
we will present them with the
MODESTY ROCKS AWARD!
Attach a package of Pop Rocks to each card.
Here's the PDF:
Modesty Rocks Awards and Journal Page PDF
You will need:
A package of Pop Rocks for each award
and a printed copy of the PDF.
Take the opportunity to bear testimony of the importance of
STANDING AS A WITNESS AT ALL TIMES
AND IN ALL PLACES
which includes modest dress at
School, Church, Dances, Parties, Swimming Pools, and anywhere
else we are . . . at ALL times!
Take pictures to add to your Family Home Evening Journal.
You can also have each member of your family sign the
Modesty Rocks Commitment Page
(Included in the PDF)
and add it to your journal.

We are going to have each family member sign a ROCK!
Closing Prayer:
Here's the Family Home Evening Treat:
Here's the Recipe PDF:
They really are as good as they look!
